Dhairyam Sarvatra Sadhana is a saying in Sanskrit that means courage facilitates the achievement of anything. One needs to remember this to become a successful investor. Most people fail in the stock market just because of not being courageous. Even though the market provided a stupendous return in the past 40 years, people have lost tons of money. One of the main reasons for this is nothing but fear.
I have seen many live examples of this in the past 3 years of my journey as a mutual fund distributor. Some of our investors were courageous when they wanted to invest in the market. They say they will hold their equity investment for a minimum of 5 years but when the market crashed due to COVID-19 they didn’t have that courage. Fortunately, we have educated them with the right advice and they were able to stick with their investment strategy and they made money in the stock market. Those who didn’t follow our instructions and didn’t dare to stay on the market lost the money.
Now, the market is very volatile and unstable, and some investors have started worrying about the stock market’s future. My advice is the same for them as before. If someone wants to become a successful investor, never get affected by behavioural bias. If the market comes down, never worry about the future of the market instead consider it as an opportunity. Please make a note that courage is not the only factor that helps you to become a successful investor but it is one of the important factors in successful investing.
